What Junk Removal Costs, Item by Item

On one real job we put out to bid, 12 local pros priced the same pile from the same photos — and the gap between the cheapest and the dearest quote was $1,025. Knowing the number before you call is the whole difference.

Mattresses & Beds — Twin

$89–$109

That is what a flat-rate national hauler charges for this one item — measured from their own published breakdown, not estimated. It is not our price: JunkerClub does not set prices, independent pros bid on your job.

The two numbers are two real cities (Mission Viejo, CA (Orange County) · Philadelphia, PA). The gap is the trip fee — it is the city that changes, not the job.

How these numbers are built

Junk removal is not priced per item. It is priced as one trip plus the share of the truck each item takes up:

trip fee + sum of item truck-shares − volume discount

The trip fee is the part that changes by city: we measured $64 in one metro and $84 in another. The item shares do not change by city — a queen mattress takes up the same space everywhere.

That trip fee is why one item is the worst deal in junk removal: you pay for the whole trip either way. The volume discount needs both a dollar subtotal and an item count, so clearing several things at once is where the price per item collapses.

Why the flat rate is only half the story

A flat rate is one company's number. On one real job — Furniture Removal in Rockville, MD — 12 local pros quoted between $225 and $1,250 for identical work, priced from the same photos with no site visit. The median was $525, and a 12-quote spread is what a single "average price" hides.

That is a 5.6× spread on the same pile. The only way to land at the bottom of a range like that is to see more than one quote for your own job.
