Trash & Junk Hauling Cost in Austin, TX
Most people pay $150–$500. Updated for 2026.
Local view of our Trash & Junk Hauling cost guide — national ranges, what moves them, and every city we cover.
Most jobs in Austin, TX do not fit a neat category. It is a garage corner, a spare room, the pile that built up behind the house — a bit of furniture, a few bags, something broken nobody got around to moving.
Mixed loads are priced the same way as everything else here: by how much of the truck they fill. You do not need to identify every item to get an accurate quote, you need a photo.
Trash & Junk Hauling in Austin: what actually moves the price
Austin runs a mixed housing stock — 44% detached houses, 42% in larger buildings — so two junk hauling quotes on the same street can look nothing alike. The variable is access, and it is the one thing worth spelling out when you post.
Drive time is a real line in a Austin quote — the city covers 326 square miles — so the truck that is already working near you can come in under one crossing the whole area. Collecting a few bids is how you find out which is which.
Most homes in Austin were built around 1993, and the layout of that era decides more about a junk hauling job than the price list does.

Trash & Junk Hauling in Austin: where the city stops and a hauler starts
The free route in Austin has hard edges, and they are the reason people end up paying: Three collections per service each calendar year, for single-family homes and buildings up to a fourplex. No separate charge — on-demand collection is part of the residential service. There is no unannounced bulk day in Austin — every bulk set-out is one of your three booked collections for the year.
Past those limits the city is not an option at all — not slower, not pricier, simply unavailable. That is the line a hauler exists for, and it is worth knowing exactly where it sits before you start carrying anything.
Collection in Austin is run by Austin Resource Recovery. Below is what they will take, straight from their own rules — and where each route runs out.
Booked bulky pickup
Bulk items too large for the trash cart: appliances with the doors removed, household carpet, doors, furniture, lawn mowers drained of gas and oil, nail-free lumber, pallets, passenger car tires off the rims, railroad ties cut in half and rolled fencing. Three collections per service each calendar year, for single-family homes and buildings up to a fourplex. No separate charge — on-demand collection is part of the residential service. Book through the Austin Recycles app, online, or by calling 3-1-1. The scheduler itself lists which items it will take. Items go out by 5:30 a.m. on the appointment date, in three separate piles: metal and rigid plastics, non-metal, and passenger tires with the rims off and eight tires maximum. Keep five feet clear of carts, mailbox, fences, water meter, connection boxes, hydrants and parked cars, and put nothing under low limbs or power lines. Nothing bagged or boxed — bags are treated as extra trash. A pile in an alley, in front of a vacant lot, or in front of a business is not collected at all.

What the regular cart will not take
Refused outright: automotive chassis and bodies, boats, motorcycles, trailers, brush, cardboard boxes, household trash, hazardous materials, mirrors, sheet glass, tile whole or broken, tires still on rims, and carpet that came out of construction or demolition. Renovation debris is the clearest gap — the city takes household carpet but not the same carpet if it came from a remodel.

How volume pricing works
Pros quote in fractions of a truck — an eighth, a quarter, a half, a full load. A full truck is roughly the contents of a small garage or four pickup beds. Because the truck is the unit, a photo of the pile gets you a far better quote than any list, and it is why every job on this site starts with one.
What cannot go on the truck
The refusals are consistent everywhere: paint and solvents, motor oil, fuel, pesticides, propane tanks, car batteries, asbestos and medical waste. Nearly every county runs a free household hazardous waste drop-off for exactly these. Set them aside first so the crew is not sorting your driveway.

Trash & Junk Hauling in Austin — common questions
How much does junk hauling cost in Austin?
Most people pay $150–$500. That is a national range for junk hauling, not a quote — your real price comes from local pros bidding on your photos, and it moves with volume, stairs and how far the item has to travel to the truck.
How do I know how big my load is?
You do not have to work it out. Post a photo of the pile and the pros tell you — that is what they do all day, and a picture removes the guesswork on both sides. If quotes come back with a wide spread, it usually means the photo did not show the whole pile.
Do I need to carry things outside first?
No. Full-service means the crew does the carrying, from wherever the items are. Moving things to the driveway yourself can shave a little off the quote, but nobody expects it and it is not worth hurting yourself over.
Is anything recycled or donated?
A good share of most loads. Metal goes to scrap, green waste to compost, and usable furniture and household goods to donation — pros generally run those drops as part of the route because it is cheaper for them than tipping fees.
How quickly can it be picked up?
It depends on how many pros cover your area. On our first jobs the first quote arrived within one to three days, and we email you the moment one comes in. Once you pick a pro you choose the date and time window; same-day or next-day pickup is possible when a crew has room on the truck.
What does JunkerClub charge me?
Nothing. Posting a job and collecting quotes is free, and you pay your pro directly when the work is done. The pro pays the platform a small fee only when they win the job — it never gets added to your price.
Do I have to carry it outside myself in Austin?
No — the crew does the lifting and loading, and that labour is most of what you are paying for. In Austin the stock is split — 44% of homes are detached and the rest are attached or in larger buildings — so two addresses on the same street can carry very differently. The median home here was built around 1993, so doorways and stairs are usually the wider post-war sizes. Say which floor it is on and whether there is a lift when you post the job; that is the part that moves the quote. Housing figures are from the U.S. Census Bureau.
What makes a junk removal quote in Austin different from the national average?
Access and housing type, mostly. In Austin, 44% of homes are detached and the city runs at about 3,044 residents per square mile — the housing stock is split between houses and larger buildings, so two addresses on the same street can price very differently. Renters occupy 56% of occupied homes here, which also shapes when the work happens. The prices on this site are national ranges; the number you actually pay comes from local pros bidding on your photos. Housing figures are from the U.S. Census Bureau.
